These are tips that won't cost a lot but can make a big difference on the appearance of your home. It is amazing how just a little attention to the details will add that special appeal that the buyer is looking for!
Clean up the outside.
The first thing people see of your house, is what they can see from the street. Your curb appeal is the first impression. Keeping the grass cut and the area tidy and your shrubbery and landscape trimmed and neat will help make a great first impression.
Paint or wash the exterior of the house and yard. Make sure your window casings, shutters, and doors are free from peeling. Make sure that your soffits and fascia are clean (and present), and that any of your out buildings are in good repair.
Wash the windows inside and out.
Check the gutters and chimney.
Touch up the interior.
Clean and brighten high traffic areas with fresh paint.
Wash the walls where paint is not appropriate (i.e. wall paper, paneling).
Scrub all floors and bathroom tiles.
Clean dirty carpets.
De-clutter. Clean out your closets, garage, basement and attic. Use self storage if necessary.
Keep dust down by replacing air filters.
Replace worn or leaking bathroom and kitchen fixtures for a new look to the room.
Clean under the sinks. If there is any leaks fix them. Then clean up the damage.
Bad smells may leave a bad taste
Be conscious of odours that you may be accustomed to, but may be offensive to others. Pet allergies and smoke sensitivity may turn people off as soon as they enter.
Place scented potpourri around the house.
On the day you're expecting a potential buyer, pop a batch of frozen cinnamon rolls or home-made bread into the oven for a great aroma
